Behind every payslip is important work – meet Jenny Nilsson

From hotel receptions and Eurovision delegations to payroll processes and HR development. After more than 20 years in the hotel industry, Jenny Nilsson is now part of Sandberg Development’s HR team, where she is responsible for payroll processes across several companies and contributes to the development of the Group’s HR function.

Structure, problem-solving and development

Jenny’s path to Sandberg Development has been anything but straightforward. After studying business and European Studies in Malmö, she embarked on a long career in the hotel industry, holding positions including Front Office Manager, Reservations Manager and Finance Manager, before moving into payroll administration.

In her current role, Jenny is responsible for payroll processes across several of Sandberg Development’s companies. It is a job where attention to detail is essential.

– Payroll affects every employee, and it feels meaningful to help ensure that they can feel confident that everything is handled correctly.

When describing what she appreciates most about her work, Jenny comes back to two things: structure and problem-solving.

– I like things to be organised and in good order. Identifying a problem and then finding a solution that makes the work smoother and better is very satisfying.

She also brings a lot of experience from her previous working life. One of her strongest memories is from the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö in 2013, when several international delegations stayed at the hotel where she worked.

– Bonnie Tyler suddenly appeared at reception and stayed to chat with us. I actually had lots to do, but you don’t get the chance to talk to a world-famous star every day.

HR development and a basketball comeback

In addition to her work with payroll administration, Jenny is involved in the continued development of HR at Sandberg Development. The focus is on creating more consistent ways of working across the Group, including onboarding and employee processes.

– It’s really exciting to be part of this development journey. Sandberg Development continues to grow, and we are working to create shared processes that work across many different companies. Being able to contribute to a well-functioning HR organisation while also learning from each other’s experiences is very inspiring.

At the end of the working day, family life awaits in Lomma, where Jenny lives with her husband and their two children. A few years ago, she also returned to an interest from her youth: basketball.

Today, she plays in a recreational women’s basketball team in Lomma, and earlier this year the team took part in the Göteborg Basketball Festival, one of Europe’s largest basketball tournaments. In addition to basketball, she also enjoys running, working out at the gym and taking walks by the sea. Her interest in structure and problem-solving is something that characterises both her professional and personal life. But on the basketball court, it is mainly about the joy of the game, team spirit and having fun together.
