Fredrik Rosqvist – image processing and problem-solving at new heights
A picture is worth a thousand words. In some cases, it can also contribute to greater security, better decision-making, and smarter products. For Fredrik Rosqvist, the common thread remains the same: using image processing to solve complex problems. In his new role as Head of Computer Vision and AI, he supports the Group’s companies in areas ranging from drone technology to advanced camera solutions.
New to the Group, bringing extensive experience
Fredrik was born and raised in Malmö and holds a Master of Science in Engineering Physics from the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, specialising in image processing. For most of his career, he has worked with how computers can interpret and analyse images. At Precise Biometrics, his focus was on fingerprint recognition, but today the technology is used in a much wider range of applications.
– It’s an incredibly broad field. Image processing is used for everything from filters in smartphone cameras to industrial systems that detect defects in products. AI is also transforming the field rapidly, from healthcare to self-driving cars.
After many years with the same employer, the move to Sandberg Development was not an obvious step for Fredrik. What ultimately convinced him was the opportunity to work closer to the end product, the broad range of businesses within the Group, and Sandberg Development’s strong reputation.
– I had heard a lot of good things about Sandberg Development, so the move felt right. I’ve received a very warm welcome, and I hope there will be plenty of exciting projects from the different companies going forward.
Fredrik’s role is to support Sandberg Development’s companies with specialist expertise in image processing, AI, and software development. His expertise allows him to contribute to everything from developing prototypes and conducting tests to creating finished solutions, helping the companies turn ideas into commercial products more quickly. These needs exist across several of the Group’s focus areas, not least Security, where the technology is used in applications including sights and camera solutions for critical infrastructure.
Problem-solving from every angle
Fredrik lives in Ribersborg in Malmö with his partner and their two children. Being close to the sea was one of the main reasons they chose this particular part of the city. Most of his spare time revolves around his family, and when he does something on his own, he prefers it to be physical.
Soccer has long been a big part of his life, but in recent years, climbing has taken on an increasingly important role. Twice a week, he goes bouldering (climbing without ropes) where strength, technique, and problem-solving are all put to the test.
– There are actually quite a few similarities with my job. You stand there trying to figure out how to move forward, testing different solutions until you find the right way.
In other words, problem-solving seems to follow Fredrik even after the working day is over.
