Mats Marklund picks up speed – in the cross-country ski track and in growth
SWATAB CEO Mats Marklund is on a mission to create a healthy, chemical-free work environment for all cleaning professionals in Sweden. He values meeting customers across the country while experiencing everything Sweden has to offer. On his days off, he prefers to spend time on the golf course or in the cross-country ski tracks. Mats has completed the Vasaloppet ski race seven times, with a personal best of completing the 90 kilometers in under six hours – a result he is particularly proud of.
In 2014, Mats came across a job posting for the CEO position at SWATAB. The role, focused on building the company through sales of its cleaning and filtration systems, prompted him to apply. With extensive international experience in similar roles and a strong interest in industry and technology, he was well suited for the challenge. Today, he has been CEO of SWATAB for just over ten years and works daily to drive continued growth.
“We want to help create a healthy work environment for cleaning professionals across Sweden. Right now, we’re working to become the first choice for Sweden’s 290 municipalities. We want to give everyone the opportunity to work in a chemical-free environment,” says Mats.
Reducing chemical use and microplastic leakage
SWATAB offers, among other solutions, the DIRO filtration system, which reduces both costs and environmental impact for customers. The filtration system produces ultra-pure deionized water (DIRO water), minimizing the need for cleaning agents and detergents. It can easily be connected to existing water faucets or washing machines. The goal is to reduce the risk of users being exposed to harmful substances or endure allergic reactions from cleaning agents.
At the same time, SWATAB is developing a microplastic filter designed to prevent plastic particles from entering wastewater treatment systems via laundry water. Reducing microplastic leakage is essential to lowering the burden on the environment.
An inspiring environment with freedom under responsibility
Mats describes being a CEO within the Sandberg Development Group as highly inspiring. Leaders are given both freedom and responsibility, along with strong support from owners and the board. He greatly appreciates the Group’s long-term approach to investments.
“I’ve been here for just over ten years and still truly enjoy it. Together with my colleagues, we make an effort to have fun at work – that’s important to me. I believe it contributes to everyone feeling good and being proud to work at SWATAB. That very much reflects Sandberg Development’s overall philosophy,” Mats concludes.
Next time you see Mats, it may well be in the ski tracks – competing in his eighth Vasaloppet on March 1.
