Mattias Johansson – turning critical technology into profitable business
By advancing professional cleaning and decontamination for firefighting gear, Rescue Intellitech helps protect firefighters from hazardous chemicals and carcinogenic substances. With a strong commercial focus, Chief Commercial Officer Mattias Johansson works to translate this societally vital solution into profitable business.
“Rescue Intellitech is entering its next growth phase. For me, it’s about understanding where the business opportunities are, how to realize that potential, and how to develop our offering in the long term. The goal isn’t just strong financial results – it’s also about reducing the risk of long-term health issues for firefighters around the world. That’s when we know we’ve succeeded,” Mattias explains.
Mattias is new to his role at Rescue Intellitech. As a leader, his ambition is to combine a clear commercial focus with a responsive and pragmatic approach, where structure and long-term thinking are key elements.
“We build our business on real customer needs, but long-term success also requires a team that shares a common vision and a willingness to keep developing what we already have. That commitment is very much present here, and it is a great strength,” says Mattias.
From code to project management and business development
Mattias holds a degree in automation engineering. Early in his career at Tetra Pak, he worked closely with their products, focusing on programming control systems for machinery and process equipment, thus helping to drive efficiency, modernization, and digital transformation in the factories. Over time, his role gradually shifted from programming to project management and business development.
“At the beginning of my career, I worked more hands-on, but my role evolved toward project management with end-to-end responsibility for teams, customers, and delivery in complex projects. That became the starting point for my interest in business. I moved into business development, customer solutions, and sales, acting as a bridge between engineers, the sales organization, and customers. The combination of technical understanding and commercial thinking proved to be a real strength,” Mattias explains.
Seeing the opportunities is the driving force
His next career step was not an obvious one. It was only when Mattias held a presentation at Sandberg Development’s company Nor:disk Clean Solutions that he recognized the opportunity to help build a business with a strong product in an early growth phase.
“I was there to talk about Tetra Pak’s operations. Meeting the company was very inspiring. They had a strong product, a clear value proposition, and were on an exciting journey. So, when I was offered the role as their new Chief Commercial Officer, I immediately accepted,” Mattias says.
After several years at Nordisk Clean Solutions, focused on building structure in sales and marketing and developing the business strategy, he moved on to Rescue Intellitech. Once again, it was the potential that attracted him.
“I joined Rescue Intellitech because of its potential and the exciting phase the company is in. Just like at Nordisk Clean Solutions, I saw the opportunity to make a difference, not only for the company, but for an entire profession. Working with products that can actually save lives gives my work a deeper meaning and serves as a strong daily motivation,” Mattias concludes.
