Sandberg Development acquires Rekal to offer end-to-end solutions for the professional dishwashing segment
Sandberg Development is a long-term investor in innovation- and technology-driven companies within societally critical sectors. With the ambition to offer end-to-end solutions for the professional dishwashing segment, Sandberg Development is acquiring a stake in Swedish company Rekal – a manufacturer of eco-labeled hygiene and cleaning products based in Gnesta.
“This acquisition is built on a clear industrial partnership and strong personal relationships. Together with Rekal, we share a Swedish industrial heritage and a value-driven ownership philosophy centered on employees and societal responsibility. The deal is a natural step, based on a shared ambition to build on our strengths and create long-term value for our customers,” says Stefan Persson, President and CEO of Sandberg Development.
With the acquisition of Italian company Silanos and its compact dishwashers in 2023, Sandberg Development took its first step toward broadening its offer in professional dishwashing solutions.
This was followed by the launch of the new brand Nordisk Clean Solutions, Nor:disk (formerly Granuldisk), which included both new water-based dishwashers and the original dishwashers enhanced with granule-based cleaning technology that have been part of the Group since 1987. Today, Silanos and Nor:disk operate jointly, offering a complete range of professional dishwashing equipment, services, and subscription models.
With Rekal, the Group can now take the final, natural step toward a fully integrated and connected offering within professional dishwashing. Through its in-house developed, eco-labeled hygiene and cleaning products, as well as an established service organization with specialized technicians, Rekal complements the existing offer and gives the Group control over the entire value chain – from production to consumables. This strengthens the conditions for more efficient operations, higher working reliability and a subscription-based offer. At the same time, the acquisition opens opportunities to expand Rekal’s products internationally across Nor:disk’s and Silanos’ established markets.
“This strengthened partnership with Sandberg Development allows us to accelerate development and scale our operations. Rekal gains a strong, long-term majority owner, while we remain Rekal – the same people, the same expertise, and the same commitment. Now with even better conditions to grow together,” says Tomas Brucefors, Chairman of the Board of Rekal and representative of the owning family.
Rekal was founded in 1987 in Gnesta, Sweden, and is owned by the Brucefors family. With its own production, the company provides hygiene and cleaning products and systems for professional kitchens in the hotel and restaurant industry, industry and public sector in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Åland and the Baltic states.
All products carry environmental certifications such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, Bra Miljöval and EcoLabel. Rekal currently has 81 employees, including 15 service technicians operating nationwide, and generates annual revenue of approximately SEK 240 million.
“The combination of three strong companies and brands strengthens one of our prioritized focus areas and creates an additional growth engine for Sandberg Development. It also enables us to take greater responsibility for the development of the industry and our own future,” says Stefan Persson, President and CEO of Sandberg Development.
Sandberg Development’s offering in the professional dishwashing segment includes the subsidiaries Nor:disk (Malmö), Silanos (Milan), and Rekal (Gnesta). Through the acquisition, Rekal becomes a subsidiary of Sandberg Development, while operations in Gnesta will continue unchanged. Headquartered in Malmö, the Group also operates in Uppsala and Gällivare, as well as internationally in France, the United States, Singapore, and India.
