Sandberg Development invests in Spec Imaging – groundbreaking optical measurement technology for turbid liquids

Sandberg Development is a long-term investor in innovation- and technology-driven companies within societally critical sectors. The Group is now making a new investment within its water focus area: Spec Imaging AB, which develops instruments for measuring chemical and optical parameters directly in turbid liquids – without the need for filtration.

Spec Imaging has developed a patented technology based on absorption spectroscopy. The technology enables real-time measurement and analysis of turbid liquids in applications such as water purification, food production, and biotechnology. Today, the company’s products are used to measure chemical parameters, particle characterization, and perform color measurements directly in turbid liquids without filtration or sample preparation.

Today, the company offers a robust industrial solution, combining both hardware and software for fixed in-line installations as well as handheld measurements. For the first time, measurements can be conducted directly in turbid liquids without filtration or sample preparation. This allows quality control to take place directly within the process, reducing the need for sampling and laboratory analysis, minimizing reworked batches, and delivering more consistent quality at lower cost.

Spec Imaging was founded in 2020 by LU Holding together with LTH researchers Edouard Berrocal, William Chaze, and Elias Kristensson, all of whom have a background in combustion physics at Lund University. Other investors include Mellby Gård’s FMG Circular Invest and Stena Metall.
